Nelson Forests’ Kaituna sawmill is a modern, efficient sawmill located in the Marlborough region at the top of the South Island of New Zealand.  Kaituna sawmill plays a substantial part in the NFL business with its state of the art processing equipment and expanding international markets.

Health and safety is a high priority at Kaituna sawmill. Staff are provided with ongoing training. Kaituna sawmill is TELARC/ACC and Grade Right accredited. Employees are provided with on the job learning opportunities through unit standards-based training to diploma level.

The mill works hard to build a good relationship with its community and its immediate neighbours.  An annual meeting is held with the community and feedback outside of this forum is welcome at any time.

The mill also sponsors local sports teams and a number of community organisations.  Students from local high schools looking at their career options can experience working at Kaituna through the Gateway programme.

From the forest to the marketplace

Kaituna sawmill supplies radiata pine products to markets in Australia, Europe, Asia and the New Zealand market.  The timber used for these products is produced from radiata pine logs harvested in Nelson and Marlborough forests.

The products

The timber has excellent structural properties due to the ideal growing conditions in the region and Nelson Forests’ best practice forest management.  The forests are grown on a sustainable basis and Kaituna sawmill has Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certification for all its timber products.

Kaituna sawmill produces high grade appearance products suitable for furniture and finishing timbers; high-grade treated products suitable for outdoor use or in structural applications; cut of log and industrial grade.
